Have you ever wondered about the concept of 'mis-sold' PCP finance?

Well, it turns out that a significant number of UK drivers might be owed financial compensation. The FCA's investigation uncovered instances where individuals were being charged excessively in their monthly finance payments.

You could qualify if:

  • Your lender didn't inform you about the commission fees associated with your agreement.
  • The interest rate on your agreement was inflated due to these high commission fees.
  • Your lender failed to provide a clear explanation of the complete terms and workings of your car finance loan. It's essential to be aware of these details.

The FCA paused the investigation of motor finance complaints (from the usual 8 week deadline) and this may continue until on or after 4th December 2025 whilst they examine the issue of car finance sales that involved discretionary commission. A complaint on your behalf can be submitted but you may not receive a response until the FCA has concluded it's review. However, a recent judgement means law firms can issue proceedings which are not subject to the FCA pause and as such claims can be submitted today.

The FCA is now consulting on a free consumer redress scheme for mis-sold car finance. We do not yet know the details of how this might work, but will publish those here once we know the outcome of the consultation.
